Wellness on Wheels, W.O.W., was started in 2020 by Mr. Rene Gonzalez, student support specialist for Communities in Schools (CIS) at Milby High School. Mr Rene, as the students refer to him, created W.O.W. to address mental health issues students were experiencing by combining his love of cycling and nature therapy.
W.O.W. provides students the opportunity to contribute to the group in various roles, ride bikes with the group on organized rides, and are offered information regarding strategies, tools, and coping skills to help themselves manage their physical and mental well-being.
W.O.W. rides often include making a stop at a predetermined location where the group has the opportunity to meet and speak with a invited guest from the community. Past speakers have been business owners, mental health counselors, cycling enthusiasts, and city officials.
